Do You Need a Licence to Hold a Bingo Night?

If you are organising a Bingo night, you will need to obtain a licence from your local authority. Licences can be obtained from your local council’s licensing department, or through the Home Office.

If you are organising a Bingo night in a private residence, you will not need a licence. However, if you are organising a Bingo night in a public place (such as a pub or club), you will need to obtain a licence from the local authority.

If you are organising a Bingo night in England and Wales, you will need to apply for a Class B gaming licence. This licence can be obtained from the Gambling Commission. In Scotland, you will need to apply for a Gambling Services Licence (GSL). This licence can be obtained from the Scottish Gambling Commission.

In Northern Ireland, you will need to apply for an integrated gambling service licence (IGSL).

If you are organising a Bingo night in Scotland, you will also need to apply for an operating licence from the Regulator of Gaming and Betting (ROGB). This operating licence can be obtained from ROGB on payment of an application fee.

If you are organising a Bingo night in Northern Ireland, you will not need to obtaining any licences. However, if your event features live music or comedy then you may need to obtain permission from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL).
