Do You Need a License to Host Bingo in Texas?

When it comes to hosting bingo in Texas, the answer is yes, you do need a license. The Texas Lottery and Gaming Commission (TLGC) regulates all gambling activities in the state, including bingo.

To qualify for a bingo license, an organization must be registered with TLGC and have a valid business license. The organization must also meet all other requirements set by TLGC, such as having an adequate facility and meeting fire safety standards.

Organizations that host bingo must also adhere to state regulations in regards to advertising and prize payout. All advertisements for bingo events must prominently display the name of the sponsoring organization and the location of the event.

Prizes must be paid out in cash or check only, and no tickets or merchandise may be given away as prizes.

The TLGC does allow for certain exemptions from its licensing requirements, such as churches and schools. In addition, local governments may pass lAWS granting exemptions to specific organizations or events.

If you’re planning on hosting bingo in Texas, make sure you’re aware of all of the regulations involved before getting started.
