What Are Bingo Pieces Called?

Bingo pieces, also called bingo cards, are a small cardboard or paper sheet with a series of spaces, typically numbered 1 to 36, and various symbols printed on it. The player selects a number from 1 to 36 and marks off the corresponding space on their bingo piece.

Bingo is a game of chance in which players try to match one of the called numbers on their piece with one of the numbers drawn from the bingo board.

The game is played with a bingo board consisting of thirty-six squares. The squares are numbered 1 to 36 and each square has six different numbers assigned to it: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, and 06. The numbers 1 through 6 are called “ballots” or “balls”.

When the game begins, each player takes turns selecting one number from 1 to 36 and marking it off on their bingo piece. On each player’s turn, the selected number is announced by the host or caller (or sometimes randomly drawn by the machine) and the player then marks off that space on their bingo piece with a felt-tipped pen or pencil.

If a player’s bingo piece includes at least one number from any of the balloting squares (1 through 6), that player wins that round of play. If a player’s bingo piece does not include any number from any of the balloting squares, that player loses that round of play.

Bingo pieces may have more than one number marked off on them, but only one win can be claimed for each round of play. If a player loses all six rounds in a game, that player is out of the game and must wait until another game is started before playing again.
