Will Bingo Halls Reopen in Scotland?

Since the closures of numerous bingo halls in Scotland, many have been wondering if the trend will continue or if there will be a reversal. With the Scottish government’s new plan to increase spending on gambling and reopening of two bingo halls, many are hopeful that the trend will change. The first of these reopened on January 18th and is located in Dundee.

The second, which is located in Aberdeen, is set to reopen on February 15th. These openings come after a string of closures in Scotland including, most notably, the closure of the iconic Victoria Bingo Hall in Glasgow which led to protests and a petition signed by over 10,000 people.

Although these openings are promising, it is important to keep in mind that there is still much opposition to bingo among Scots. While it may be increasing in popularity among some Scots, it remains a controversial game that many oppose on moral grounds.

Additionally, while these halls may be reopening, they are not reversing the trend of closures – there have been more closures than openings since 2014. However, these openings are a sign that there may be more change on the horizon for bingo in Scotland.
