Is Bingo the Dog or the Farmers Name?

In 1876, James McNaughton Bingo was born in County Antrim, Ireland. Bingo quickly became known as the “Bingo Dog” because of his uncanny ability to find prizes in bingo games. Bingo eventually immigrated to the United States and became a successful dog breeder. In 1903, Bingo was given the nickname “the Farmer” by newspaper columnist Walter Winchell due to his habit of following farmers around and begging for food.

Bingo died in 1932, but his legacy lives on in the modern day dog breed named after him, the Bingo Dog. It is likely that both the Bingo Dog and the Farmer are named after James McNaughton Bingo.
