When Did the Term Bingo Become Popular?

Historians believe that the term “bingo” may have originated in Ireland in the late 1800s. At the time, bingo was a popular game among the Irish peasants. The peasants would call out bingo, which would then be repeated by the other peasants. The term likely traveled to England and eventually America, where it became popular in the early 1900s.

In 1926, a National Bingo Association was formed in England, and by 1934, there were over 1,000 bingo clubs across the United States. The popularity of bingo continued to grow throughout the 20th century, and by 1999, there were over 20 million players in America. Today, bingo is still a popular game enjoyed by many people all over the world.
