Where Did the Word Bingo Originate?

Bingo is a popular card game that originated in the United Kingdom. In 1876, Charles B. Fry, a newspaper editor in England, created a game called “Twenty-One” which involved marking off cards according to a set pattern. In 1921, The London Daily Express published an article about Fry’s game and it quickly became popular in England.

In 1934, the American Bingo Association was founded and the game began to spread to other parts of the world. Bingo is now played in more than 180 countries.
